The Western Australian Photographic Judges Association (WAPJA) exists to serve camera clubs and community organisations that run photographic competitions and exhibitions.
We are dedicated to best practice approaches to photographic judging with a focus on photography as a legitimate art form. The WAPJA does not rely on an accreditation process for judges. Instead we use education, practice, peer assessment and user-feedback to provide judges with a path to continuous improvement. All applications for judge status are appraised by the Committee of the Association. We prefer our judges to have undertaken some training even if they have been judging successfully for some time.
The WAPJA expects its members to adopt a philosophy of respect - respect for the images, respect for the photographers who submit their work for assessment, and respect for the clubs and organisations that run the competitions and exhibitions.
